Building Automation Systems (BAS) Technician

Position Summary:
Tweet/Garot Mechanical is looking to hire a detail-oriented BAS entry-level person to learn and develop into a skilled building controls technician This entry-level position assists with building automation systems commissioning, ensuring that all systems and components of a building are designed, installed, tested, operated, and maintained according to the operational requirements of the customer. The right candidate will work well with others, take ownership, be a team player, and act with integrity. This position reports to the local Supervisor and takes direction from a mentor and Lead Technician.

Willing to train the right candidate – which may include a fully compensated journeyman apprenticeship program.

Building automation is the centralized control of a building’s heating, ventilation, air conditioning, lighting, and other systems through a building management system or building automation system (BAS). The objectives of building automation are improved occupant comfort, efficient operation of building systems, reduction in energy consumption and operating costs, and improved life cycle of utilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist with the installation of field devices.
• Assist with the installation and termination of the communication cable.
• Assist with point-to-point operational checkout
• Learn and assist with basic system programming functions.
• Work with IT departments to enable remote-based access to building control systems.
• Utilize hand tools, laptop and test equipment on site.
• Jobsite organization and prep.
• Assist with system device identification.
• Work with a mentor, lead technician, or senior programmer.

Preferred Knowledge, Experience & Skills Requirements:
• Preferred knowledge of electronic control devices and functionality.
• Basic knowledge of AC motors and drives.
• Basic knowledge of mechanical and HVAC systems.
• AC & DC electrical concepts and measurement knowledge.
• Fundamentals of current, voltage and resistance.
• High school diploma or state-recognized GED; Associate degree preferred.
• Proven electro-mechanical aptitude (based on previous experience and/or education) and user PC/software skill.
• Ability to read and understand design and construction documents.
• Ability to work in a variety of circumstances, including climbing ladders, scaffolds, and high-lift equipment; working in ducts, crawl spaces, roofs, basements, above ceilings, and in outside/inside/heat/cold/day/night conditions.
• Must be able to differentiate types/colors of wire.
• Must be able to use hand tools, laptop, email, smartphone, and tablet.
• Must be able to carry and move equipment and tools weighing up to 75 pounds unassisted.
• Ability to work in a team environment providing dedicated support to our customers.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & Outlook).
• Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Qualified applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States.
