Position Summary:
The Safety Intern will collaborate with a team of safety professionals to ensure compliance with occupational safety and health regulations across various job sites, shops, and office locations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assists in monitoring and enforcing the company’s safety standards, ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and client requirements
• Supports inspections of machines, equipment, and tools for proper safety features and accident prevention devices
• Observes workers and evaluates job tasks to ensure proper use of required safety equipment such as hard hats, goggles, gloves, face-shields, respirators, and other personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Assists in implementing administrative or engineering controls to mitigate safety hazards
• Assists in inspecting designated areas for fire prevention equipment, first-aid supplies, and other safety-related items
• Assists in preparing reports of findings with recommendations for corrective actions
• Prepares report of findings with recommendations for corrective action.
• Assists with investigations of causes of accidents to identify preventative safety measures for incorporation into the safety program.
• Reviews existing policies, procedures and programs for potential improvements.
• Assists with maintaining programs and record keeping systems that track and evaluate incidents, injuries and near misses.
• Performs research for new policies and programs.
• Conducts trend analysis, audits, accident investigations, and site inspections of operational procedures, facility design, equipment and materials.
• Demonstrates use of safety equipment.
Minimum Knowledge, Experience & Skills Requirements:
• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program, preferably in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Safety Engineering, or a related field.
• Basic understanding of OSHA standards and safety regulations is preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Extremely organized with great attention to detail.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Proven ability to learn quickly and creatively solve problems.
• Strong conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
• Ability to act as a team player.
